On the way home about 20 minutes ago on I-10, I was wondering why everyone was starting to slow down ahead of me until I saw through an opening that a large semi (naturally in the left lane) was shedding one of his trailer tires all over the slab. That's bad enough that it is happening close enough to witness, but the cagers all begin to swerve and dodge in front of and around me as the chunks of tire appear in their particular lane. First, I'm sure glad I wasn't starting to pass this truck when the gator started to appear, that can be deadly. Second, it occurred to me that summer is fast approaching and in spite of all of you still getting snow, the highways will be getting to a hotter temperature and these recap tires that are being used will begin to unravel all over the landscape in large numbers pretty soon. Just a reminder from here to be aware of and ready for them.

+ stuff that falls off of trucks, like a Mattress.
I've seen that happen. Luckily I was in a car at the time.
Talk about gators! My brothers live in Florida and they say you need to be very careful on the roads at sundown. The gators will come out of the water to lie on the roads to get the heat from the pavement. No mnatter what you're driving, especially a bike, it can be very dangerous. They're hard to see and its like running into a log.

Ernie used to tell some real interesting stories about that happening.

Ernie will discover that he didn't move completely away from them. We have a very healthy gator population here on the coast, and although they tend to stay uprive and in the marshes, one will periodically venture into the neighborhoods and dogs and cats start to disappear. My neighbor has a lake similar to mine, and we have already shot one that had been swimming with his kids..never thought two boys could move that fast in the water.
