Not at all. Mostly joking with you, but I think "C" models are more difficult to shoot well at night. I've seen some on the police range at night....lots of flash into the sight plane.

Absolutely correct!!!!!!

I carry a tricked out Glock 21C as a duty weapon. I mainly carry a Glock 36 because it works better with plain clothes. I have to dress in a coat and tie with Dockers almost every day...... The smaller weapon is my choice but that's just my opinion and y'all know what opinions are like......

Any ideas on the best for home protection other than my shotgun?

I only have two Glocks now. A 30, my favorite, and a 17 my former duty weapon. I owned a 23 and a 19 as well. I'd like a 36 at some point for an easier carry option than the 30 it's a little chunky.

Well then each to their own. But if they are stolen when you are not their then what good are they but to cause you great havic when they kill some child or in a drive by. Yes out and grabable when your in reach of them but safes do have a big purpose too and trigger locks do not work on a loaded gun!!

ms_tapestry
01-04-2008, 06:23 AM
I keep mine out where I can grab it if needed. . . I'm kinda of thinking along the same lines as Mr. Cuda. . . it isn't going to do any good if it's unloaded or it's where I can't get to it quickly. . . but I don't have any children at home to worry about either. . .

I understand the idea of the gun safe and the alarm system, but you know what? If they really want to get in then they are going to. Nothing is invincible. I lock my car up at night, but that won't stop somone who really wants it from taking it. Say my car was stolen and they run into a mini-van full of people and kill someone. Is it my fault? No. The same with my weapon. My house is locked. If someone breaks in and steals my gun and kills someone with it, that isn't my fault either. Guns don't kill. . .people do. JMO.

In Fl. it isn't as long as you do not have anyone under the age of 18 in that same house at the time.

Like I said each to their own on safes and security systems. I personally would be totally demoralized if one of my guns was stolen and then found to of killed someone. So I'll do what ever I can to stop that from happening.
Not just that either, I want to protect the guns from fire possiblities too.
It is just worth it to me personally.

A gun safe ain’t gonna stop some azzhole from stealing ya gunz, unless it weight 15,000lbz, BUT what it will stop is the slight possibility that you may be able to protect youself, loved ones , and home.
I can see me telling a thief.
“Cuse me while I unlock my gun safe, unlock the trigger lock, and load this fine weapon, that I may use it to protect my home from you.”
The sad fact is ,that is your home is broken into ,in the dead of night, and your weapon is next to you, YOU HAVE A SMALL chance of using it.
You come outta a sound sleep, da brain is foggy, the house is dark, now find a target.
That’s where dogs, and alarms come into play, they help level a playing field a little.
They may keep MR. Scum away, and / or may wake you up in time.
How many of you have dogs, and can read their barks?
If ya take da time , get up un the night when the dog is barking, note what the K9 is barking at, and note the type of bark your furrie friend is using.
With practice you will be able to tell WHAT he is barking at , the where the enemy ( in his eyes) is .
Ya see that dog is protecting you , his ALFA master, he’s smart, so become smart and learn what he is telling you.
I know this soundz like bragging, but I can tell if Leadbelly is barking at a strange cat/ dog , or person, and if that person in in the carport.
The real sad thing bout this whole mess is I would hate to live with the fact that I had killed some SCUM bag.
That’s the way I see upon it.

I would not lose any sleep over the fact that I had killed someone in order to protect my family, myself, or my friends. Don't get me wrong, I hope I NEVER have to, but I won't hesitate if the situation calls for it............I've already made that decision and decided I can live with it.

I too have a full understanding of how my 3 dogs bark and what would indecate an intruder in the middle of the night. I too have a loaded 9mm next to the bed. I too will have a very good alarm system very soon. I too will keep the rest of my collection in a fire proof safe bolted directly to the 9" thick concrete slab in my home with 1" x 9" achor bolts. Like I have said each to their own. Call me over cautious I guess.

No way you could carry these safes. 800lbs. each and bolted heavily to concrete and fire proof to 2,200 degrees for over 90 minutes.
10 gauge duel wall construction too. These are not just a wallyworld type safes. All the local gun shops use them and our local jeweler too. Fort knox brand.
Also looking into the X10 home security system that would call me directly if there is a breach in the home.

WOW the southside of cowtown must be a really bad place to live....
It was in a section of town that had a large rent population and a large gang population. It was also where we chose to purchase a house because it was affordable and close to my ex's job. I had two little children that wanted to play outside and I didn't much care for the druggies pulling up in front of my home to go to the house across the street or next door. I was bound and determined it was going to be safe for them to be in their own front yard. The icing on the cake was the morning I headed out to the grocery store at the crack of dawn to get milk and I was pulled over and questioned by the police department wanting to know who I was, where I was coming from and what did I know about the people in the house next to me. It seems they were suspected of running a meth lab out of the house! One day I was in the grocery store and got to talking to the man behind me in the check out lane. He was a detective for the local police department. He told me what to do and gave me his card. So I started recording names, license plate numbers, dates and times and I would turn them into him. I witnessed several 'transactions' directly in front of my house. I guess looking back I should have been more afraid, but I was a Mom on a Mission. I was a gardener and spent a lot of time digging in the flower beds. I'd memorize the plate number then run inside and write it all down. It took more time than I realized it would take, but it did work. The chop shop got shut down the quickest, within a week actually. The dealer/cook next door went to prison. The dealer across the street got shut down, and finally evicted. A young couple bought their house and everytime they did a remodel on a room they found hundreds of needles in the walls! Eventually we reclaimed our block. I couldn't save the entire neighborhood, but on our block we all knew each other's names and children and knew who should be there and who shouldn't. Oh, and the local PD also formed a gang unit. Tagging was a big problem but I'd call the graffiti unit and they would be out the very next day painting over the gang signs. Funny thing about that gang unit. The city hired a big company to come in and tell them how to save money. They decided to eliminate the gang unit because there wasn't a gang problem. And, yes, you guessed it, gang crime shot straight up. The reason there wasn't a gang problem is because of the gang unit! Within a year it was back. . .

When my son got to high school he was best friends with the nephew of the Police Chief. . .there's another story. . . :D

No I know that. I would do the same if needed. Luckily both my kids are now grown and out of the house. We live in a somewhat safer area but the crime all around us is closing in big time. Specialy house break ins and then they beat the old folks to near death if they are in the house at the time. Gangs are very big here too. This whole country is falling into ruin....
