686... Damn that will break a wrist.
I like my little 1941 9mm P-38.
I do want the new Beretta Extereme 2 shot gun.
12 rounds of 00 buck shot in 1.73 seconds with very little recoil... yep that works.

A 686 is a puppy. Try my model 29. That will lay a hurting on you.

Before we went to Sigs, I carried a S&W 586 (blued version of a 686) for years. I loved that revolver and still shoot it regularly. When I was a young, tough and somewhat stupid Trooper I decided to carry a 4" Model 29 (we could carry what we wanted to within certain parameters) 'cause I just knew that bigger was better. Wrong. That lasted about six months until I figured out that a 4" 29 will kick the crap out of you with full duty loads. I shot much better scores with my 586 than I was ever able to shoot with my 29.

Yep, had a 629 6" with pachmeyers...decided to qualify with it...we had to qual with the load we would carry on-duty...as I recall I decided on Federal 240JHP...after 36 of the 60 rounds of draw/fire, the web of my hand between thumb and index finger was bleeding...I looked at the Rangemaster, who was a friend, I raised both hands over my head and said I surrender...Danny said yea, go back to your 1911..

Big bore and high power is fun for recreation....carry what you can control for defense....

Ya but what fun is getting beat to death just to have fun.
When the wife and I go to a range and shoot, we may shoot 100 rounds in one gun and many times we shoot more than one gun, I want to shoot something that is fun:fishing:

I used to carry my 6" # 29 in a shoulder holster. Being 5'9" and 140 lbs, it was hard not to know it was there. It did have a certain shock value though. I worked in an office building in a not so nice part of town. All the women in the building used to meet at 5 at my office door and I would walk them all to their cars and continue to the front of the building to my bike.
One November evening I had seen all my charges safely to their cars and was walking alone up the alley when a "gentleman" with a crack crazed expression starts to angle accross the street towards me with his right hand behind his back. He asked if I had a cigarette. I knew what that meant so I decided to enjoy the situation. I started towards him and said "sure, buddy, here you go. My smokes were in my shirt pocket so I unzipped my leather jacket and pulled it wide open. My right hand went for the pack but the poor guy could only see the nickel plated #29 in the shoulder rig. Needless to say. he decided to give up smoking for a while.
Since breaking my arm about 12 years ago, I have a stainless steel plate and 10 screws holding my right arm together. My limit with the .44 is 6 rounds. Any more than that and the screws loosen up and my arm is useless for a week. I carry a Dan Wesson model 15 in .357 At 39 oz. it is a puppy with the 6" barrel but a bit harsh with the 2" I've only put a dozen rounds through the 2" bbl enough to know it will shoot where I point it, but I can fire a couple boxes with the 6 incher without cripling myself.

A few flamethrower rounds out of a big bore is fun....with duty draw and fire you seldom get the perfect grip...that is what caused the web bleeding...

When we were shooting several times a week, we would go through 500 to 1k rounds a week....but I was reloading and pouring my own bullets...in 38/158swc I would load 2.8 grains of Bullseye...superlight so my wife and daughters could enjoy shooting....

Do you reload? If not you ought to look at Dillion Precision out of AZ....great reloading equipment....makes shooting tons of rounds affordable...I wore out the 550B press...they rebuilt and shipped it back to me for free...

I have to join a range here locally, but need a CCW permit to do so and then the cost right now is to high so need to wait on that for awhile too.
I want to go shooting again haven't done that in many years.
