Hey guys and gals. Today is Black Tuesday at my and my wife's workplace. I heard rumblings that layoffs were going to occur this week. Turns out the rumors are true. They started walking people out yesterday. Some quality people have left the building. I guess 250-300 people by the end of the year.

Please keep my wife and I in your thoughts while we weather this.

Thanks.

What kind of work do you and your wife do?

We work for a bank data processing company. I work for the electronic billpay division converting banks onto our system. My wife works the support desk for internal and external customers. We're in two totally different departments, but this cutdown is company-wide. So basically, we kind of have our eggs in one basket, so to speak.

Yeah alot of people are shaking in their boots right now as this is supposed to go on all week. I've been told that my dept. is pretty safe as we are thin already and are borrowing resources from other departments. My wife's dept. may be a different story.

My wife has been with the company for about 15 years now - so if she was let go her severance probably would be full salary for a year. Which she probably would like...lol.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. You all are the best!

In the last five years we have under gone five reorganizations. I have survived so far, but they keep getting closer.

Good luck to the wife and yourself, Tundra! They have been letting and finding reasons to let people go at my place of business. We go through this every year at this time.

Prayers to all who are in the same situation!

What a sucky time of the year for reorganization and layoffs. Yet it always seems to occur at the end of the year. :Angel_anim:

So far, so good Mike. A couple people were let go in my wife's dept. A good friend of mine was let go yesterday. It's a shame - he was probably the most knowledgable in his area, but was at the top of his pay scale. The guys that remain do not know the product as well - a penny-wise dollar-foolish decision in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure that I'm out of the woods. My wife will breath easier once this week is over.

Again, thanks for all the well wishes and prayers everybody. Reading all your comments really helps ease my mind.

Jim, Caterpillar is a very good place to work for.
I got over 20 years of welding, so I fit in well and fast:banana1:
