Just picked up a new to me pistol for a great price. S&W model 39 made in 1976 near mint condition, 2 mag.'s, OEM box & papers.
What do ya think?

Nice looking piece...

I bought my duty 59 when they retired it (before they retired me...)

The major weak spot in these guns are their frame slide rails...I broke the first 59 issued to me...diagonal stress fracture in one rail...the slide stayed on and unbelievably the gun functioned...

But my shot placement suddenly went from a tight group to all over the paper..could not figure out what happened until I pulled the slide to clean the gun and the slide rail fell off...

Slide rails are a know problem, but I suspect your 39 had a lot less rounds through it than my duty 59...

Just keep an eye on the frame and keep it lubed well..

Will do and I was told less then a full box has been ran through it.
This will be my everyday carry.

Got to bang through 3 clips last Sat. Nice, Very nice... 2-3 lbs. trigger pull and crisp too.
I was at a open range and did not want to hang around long so did not try and group anything. Will later. But this will do just fine as my everyday carry. Got some 124 grain brass jacketed hollows for her too.
