I knew Paul well, he owned a store here in Albuquerque called Moter Cycle Wild. I was going to paint 2 bikes for him this summer. Man he was a really nice person the kind that takes the time to talk to you when you need it. His funeral will be held Thursday but I don't know the details yet. The Veterans are going to hold a ride in his honor soon and I will post the info when I know more.
ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a motorcyclist in Albuquerque Sunday night turned himself in to police this afternoon.
Paul Souther, 48, of Tijeras was riding his motorcycle on University Boulevard NE near Menaul around 10 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses said the driver of an SUV ran a red light and broadsided Souther.
The driver then got out of his vehicle and said, "He's going to be OK, right?" before fleeing the scene on foot.
Then just after 1 p.m. today Robert Fuentes, 37, of Albuquerque showed up at the police station with his lawyer. He did not give police a statement.
Investigators said they had a good idea that Fuentes might be their suspect because he is the registered owner of the SUV which was left at the scene. They even went looking for him Sunday night after the crash, but he wasn't home.
Fuentes has been booked into the county jail on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with evidence. His bail was set at $200,000.
Police said the district attorney will look at the case before deciding if any other charges will be filed.
