Would it not make you sick if when you focus the scope and see someone has already focused their 50 cal. scope on you?..........."DUCK!"

I've never shot one of those things, so this is just out of genuine curiosity - what's the actual effective range of those things?
It must be more than just one mile, 'cos regular calibre rifles (0.303", 0.300" / 7.62 mm) sniper rifles are leathal at that range, so there wouldn't be any benefit in lugging around a 0.50 cal unless it could do a lot more ... is it, like, 2 miles? 3? You'd need a steady hand ...!!

Yea, so i did some looking around the www and see that people are taking shots out to 2,400 m and more (that's about a mile and half), but the biggest diference i think i see is the tactical use - a "normal" sniper rifle (L96, M40, Dragunov, etc.) is for hitting single human targets, full stop. But of course the 50 cal round has enough power to go straight through even thick walls at long range, and also to screw up other targets such as trucks and even light armour.

So there ya go - i answered my own question! (i think ...?)

Yeah you got it Monty. I had a friend over this weekend and he is a former marine sniper. He said he has taken shots out to 2300m with the 10x unertl scope that they would use.

That's just plain bad A$$ shooting.

Yes I bet you would, as the bullet of that size whistles into your location. Oh and of course the blast when it hits what ever your behind!
Yep I want one too. I have a few non-charged rounds from an air force version. Big some bitches for sure!

I think it was at Adobe Wells where the Indians named it "Shoot Today, Kills Tomorrow".
