View Full Version : I finally had to winterize the truck and trailer
I finally had to winterize the truck and trailer today. We are 55 F (13 c) here today, but by Saturday we are suppose to have a high of 0 F (-18 c) and a low of -8 F (-22 c). I am considering a trip in January or Febuary and am looking for suggestions. We are looking to head to the Western US. As you know we have a toyhauler and will need an area where we can use as a home base to ride the Harley from as well as do some offroading with the quads. We will also be taking the toad (Jeep) with us. Oh ya, it has to be WARM!!!
Cheers

Well have fun and relax out there Mike. Make sure you post some pics when you get back. And make sure you think of us poor slobs freezing our asses off up here. You should link HDB to Forest River Forums (http://www.forestriverforums.com/). We need to get some more trafic through there.

Come on down here. It may be close to freezing, but that ought to be a warm spell for you Canadian types this time of year.

Lots of RV spaces, camping, lots of desert to ATV in, the river and good riding roads in the area. I see more Canadian plates on the roads this time of year that I see Arizona and Nevada tags...
84 here today, and usually in the high 50's in Jan/Feb...:)

Down here in the Southwest it is not as warm as we would like it but to the Bears 55 f maybe considered a warm front. I would say come on down here but he way the idiots have been hitting and killing the motorcycles the past week, I would have to say stay away unless you are driving a large body aircraft down the road. From the picture I would definitely but out the invite and say HEAD THIS WAY!!
Gotta agree with Dan...Bullhead City or Kingman would make a good base camp for the trailer....sorry Dan, you keep Laughlin as a base...good place to visit...
Might even get to put some miles on with the Northern Bears...

Works for me!
Thanks guys/gals. We were thinking Arizona or Nevada, sorry Ron, but California dosent like units like mine especally when I pull my Jeep behind the 5th wheel. We kind of like places where there is random camping. We are totaly self contained with 300 gal water, 5000 watt genset and 2 AC's and sat TV and internet. We will probably head that way and just find a good spot off some lonly road in the desert. We will keep you advised of our plans as the time gets closer.

AZ 93 between Lake Mead and Kingman has numerous state areas,,,since I am not so equipped, I have not used them...but pleasant weather in the winter...lotsa open spaces and close enough to the fun stuff....
Will they let RV's like mine over Hoover Dam? At one time I heard they woulden't let RV's or tractor trailers over it after 9/11. I may be screwed on both counts.

Bear I *think* they will now. You have to go through a check point, and get your unit searched (no, not that unit). I see them all the time in the pull off area getting the once over...
If they wont let you over, the alternate route only adds about 25 miles. Not much time is lost, as the traffic on the dam has always been awful...
No big-rig stuff over the dam...95 south then thru Laughlin and cross there into Bullhead City...

That's why I wonder if they will let me over. I am registerd as private, but you never know

Here's some info I found, Bear...

Thanks. By the way that reads, they may or may not let me through, I am a private RV, but the trailer is over 40 ft. What is the alternate route?

Here's a map. The dam is where the star is. Ron pretty much explained the route...
