At Jim's suggestion, I flipped a coin and it came up tails, so I headed south at about 11 AM. About noon, Mighty Whitey got me to the coffee window at Versailles Bakery at the corner of SW 34th Avenue and Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street) in Miami. (Pic #1)I headed a few miles east to US 1 and ran south to Florida City where I tested the coffee at another spot. (No picture) I kept on south to Key Largo for my 3rd at Denny's Latin Cafe. (Pic 2) Now, I should have turned around but I was getting pretty wired and felt great so I continued south to Marathon Key, filled up the bike and headed north. There is this bridge in Islamorada, you see where the Atlantic Ocean is on the east side and the Caribbean is on the west side Shot 3 is the Caribbean #4 is the famous Hog Heaven in Islamorada and 5 is the Atlantic. I headed home by a different route and the round trip was just under 300 miles.
I had a great day!

I guess I should keep you up to date on the score. Versailles had without a doubt, the best colada, buy the waitress at Denny's was cute enough to put her place on top for the day.

I'm jealous you had such great weather to ride in. I miss the warm weather and it's only November.

Well, I DID have to put on my denim jacket about sundown. I was running the Florida Turnpike at 80 and at 72 degrees and no sun, that'd getting a might chilly for me these days.

I'd need a full body heated suit to ride these days for more than 30 minutes at a time.

I finished planning the rout to Key West today Jim. From my place to Key West at about 230 miles and no super slab. It will include 60 miles or so of 60 mph 2 lane at the eastern edge of the Glades and another 25 through mangroves along the coast south of Homestead FL. About a 4 hour ride not including stops for Cuban coffee.
UFO? nope I messed up when I was resizing the photo and painted a black dot. Thanks for pointing that out.
There is a lighthouse in the shot on a reef about 5 miles out. (just above and right of the throttle grip)

Just watch yourself on the freeway down there, like Ernie said, it's 80 mph or faster not slower or you'll get run over. Believe me, I've seen those sites and some are still a blurr even after 2 years. heh heh
Hey Ernie, I thought that maybe one of the seagulls planted something on your camera lens just before that last picture.:HaHaHa:

The http://www.melfisher.org (http://www.melfisher.org/) Mel fisher Museum is a must when you reach Key West if you're at all into ship wrecks and treasure. Fisher is the guy that found and salvaged the Spanish treasure ship, Nuestra Seņora de Atocha.
I took my son Greg there a few years back. There is a gift shop at the front, but the real souvenirs are at the museum store in the back. While we were there, Greg decided he should pick up something for his mom. He bought her a gold charm made from gold found at the Atocha site. I was thinking, maybe a chain. The salesman said, "I've just the thing" and dropped a chain in my open palm. My hand dropped and I almost broke the glass of the display case. The chain had to weigh 8 or 10 pounds. "For you, only $300,000" he said.

I haven't seen that scenery for many years. Last time I was in Isla Morada, I spent most of it underwater. Some pretty good diving out there.

Durrl, Did you dive the reef off John Pennycamp state park? I don't dive but my sister and brother-in-law do. We went to Pennycamp they dove the reef and Sam and I rented a canoe and paddled around the mangroves all day. Did you know that there are crocs in the mangrove swamps? BIG crocs!

Crocs are damn scary. It's always a strange feeling when you are not at the top of the food chain anymore.

For the record, been to Pennycamp, but like the diving better around Isla Morada. Like it better there than at Gay West. Never saw a croc down there, but heard the tales.

Are you saying Jim gets sidetracked Ernie?
ErnieS
11-20-2007, 07:28 AM
In all fairness to Jim, He was headed this way a few months back but bad weather kept forcing him to the north. It could happen to anybody. You start out for Miami and end up in Nashville. Happens all the time.
Ultimately, it's more about what you see along the way than where you end up.
