I just bought one of these...

It's a Stag Arms Tactical 5.56mm complete lower half. Now all I need to do is find a nice new complete upper half to finish the rifle. The next one I am going to build will be from scratch, a bare lower receiver and a parts kit and assemble it all myself. Any other AR15 lovers out there? :sterb003:

I had a DPMS .223 that I used for awhile. That was a nice gun. Adjustable stock, holographic sights, single point bungee sling.
I miss that gun
Oh well

I lugged around it's big brother, the M16, in the jungle way too much to be in love with either of them. Piece of crap jamming junk.
I threw it away and carried the M14 the rest of my time their. At least that round would go through the wall instead of bouncing off of it.

Give me an old M-1 Carbine and then get far, far away from me.

I love the Garand and I have a jungle carbine that is a swwet piece, but you can't beat a bolt action for accuracy. I have a 7.7 Jap that I used to be able to center a half dollar at 400 yds. and I have a Parker Hale in .308 that's deadly at 300 or so.

I love the M14/M1A but you can't just build them like these and the magazines are very expensive here in Mass due to the draconian gun laws here. Eventually I will get an M1A the semi auto of the M14 but it will have to wait a while.

AR-15;s? What is the hype anyways?
All composite crap is all I see personally speaking.
I Mean I'd much rather own a Winchester 70 Carbine, Remmington 03-A3 or a Springfeild 1903 sporter for military type rifles.
Of of course a 1911 on my side too.

.223 is a great round. Light, high velocity bullet that results in DRT stops at 300 meters. It’s relatively accurate to well over 700 meters, and dead nuts reliable. Yeah, the early Mattel-16 was beta tested and found lacking in the jungles of Vietnam, but much has changed in 40 years. If given the choice, I’ll carry 500 .223 rounds rather that 250 7.62 rounds on my back… Its job is hunting one animal, the thin skinned one, and it does so with great efficiency…
If I ever find myself at the end times, and all I can carry away is one rifle and one pistol, serve me my AR15-A3 and my double stack .45… I’ll be just fine, thank you…

Well... the extra weight of the 7.62 vs. the pea shooter that let us down most of the time wasn't noticeable, but the security of knowing what you were carrying over your shoulder firing when you needed it to WAS WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD! There are no 300 meter shots at thin skinned animals in the jungle. That's a place for a brush buster, not a pea shooter.
I speak from experience of having carried both. The M16 and the AR15 were and are carnival weapons.

So other than shooting at thin-skinned animals in the jungle, what are these used for by non-military people? Just target shooting?

So what does a good quality AR cost?

I guess that is like the old saying, "How fast can you afford to go?"
I paid $700 for a Colt A3 heavy barrel carbine, but that was 9 years ago during the ban, and for work only.
Another guy I work with is Inspector Gadget. He has a Bushmaster with so much crap on it it looks like a friggin video game; lasers, lights, side by side plastic mags, bi-pod, night vision, holograghic site, front guard rails, trigger job, bolt and carrier made out of Kroptonite or something equally exotic, etc, etc, etc...
I bet he has 3-4 grand in it...

I would think so, but I don't want to give you bad info. There are many variants of the AR, and several manufacturers as well. With the ban being lifted, I would think the cost of an assault rifle would have dropped, but maybe newfound demand has kept the prices up???
I know when I bought mine, it was an L.E. only price, and other cops that were buying and getting certified at the same time remarked that I got a good deal. Mine is stamped "Law Enforcement/Government/Military/Export Only" on the lower, so I don't know if it has less or more value now...
I heard the less expensive way to go is to build one like mordak is doing. They are a very simple machine, and it looks like you could build a rifle this way and save some bucks...
I like my Colt. It makes a loud noise and sends a round down range every single time I squeeze, never jams, and is unbelievably accurate. It's rough looking though, sand cast, poor bluing and not pretty in the least...
My buddy with the video game rifle has the best of everything, and the quality shows. Lay his next to mine and it's like parking a 1978 Pinto next to a Cadillac CTS...
