Got a call from Jim earlier and he asked me to let everyone know where he is and how things are going with respect to this crazy storm we are having. The original plan ws for him to be at my place tonight. He called me from Bunkie, LA, and after discussing where this storm was and where it was heading at the time, he elected to head to Natchez and take the Trace to try to go north and around the weather. Not sure if that was going to be profitable since the storm seems to have jogged a bit more northerly since then. I suspect they will stay in either Natchez or around Jackson tonight and then head to Florida from there. I will see them next weekend. As I heaar from them, I'll update the thread and keep y'all in the loop.

Doing better, Mike. Heard from Jim a little later. They stopped at Natchez as I suspected they would. Tomorrow they will attempt to go the Trace to around Tupelo and then make it to my plce late. Again, I think it wold probably be Sunday before they can get here. The weatehr will have long passed their path to Florida, so I will be expecting a call later to see whether they decide to visit Mississippi's Coast or Florida's first.

My pleasure, Mam! By now they are enjoying cruising the Trace. Ought to take most of the day. I'll post more as soon as I hear from them unless they just show up here first in which case I'll hand the keyboard to Jim.

This evening the wandering pair have called it a day at Meridian, MS. Seems they are doing a thorough exploration of Mississippi back roads. I expect that they will. be arriving on the coast late tomorrow afternoon. Looks like I get to do some Cajun cooking then.

Update appreciated Darryl, you think they might get lost and end up in some swamp with a few locals in canoe's? :D:D

Didn't hear from them yesterday which I interpret to mean they got rained on a lot and headed for South Florida. I figure they'll reappear later in the week with a nice suntan and bugs on their windshields.

Just got off the phone with Jim. they are in North Carolina feasting on steak with Hogg831. Looks like they are on the Blue Ridge parkway although I expected them to be heading for the Keys. Seems the rain all week was always in their way so they headed north. I think tomorrow's route is still up in the air so be prepared for anything. I expect that they wil not be back on the Gulf Coast for a few days or perhaps another week....and I had my heart set on shrimp etouffe. I may have to cook up a practice pot just to make sure I haven't lost my touch.

NC, huh? They do get around, don't they? Thanks for the update!

It seems they visited Fort Sumpter, SC, and assuming they didn't attempt to restart the Civil war, I am hearing rumblings of a trip to the keys from there. Must be nice to be retired with only the decision of what road is next!

Jim called last night from a campground just outside of Marietta, GA. He will ride into my place sometime late this afternoon and maybe chill out for a day or so before heading for Texas. Something about laundry being at a critical level or....well, at least it ain't the weather.
Little Bear wanted to explore some more of the roads further north in NC and VA so the pair is splitting up as of this AM and hopefully I'll hear from him, too to keep you up to date.

Hmmmm. . .maybe he will make the Big Bent trip after all. . . :) Thanks for the update Mr. Durl.

He mentioned it, but not sure if he isn't a bit saddle weary or worried about weather or whatnot. Knowing Jim, being this close to a bike group, he'll be in the hills.

I really hope he makes it to BB!

I'm heading out there today. Bike is packed, but I'm really not sure how much of what I packed will make it to the final destination. I have a feeling I'll be leaving a bread crumb trail of gear all the way down there. Oh well, I'm on holiday!

Jim made it to Ocean Springs about 6PM and after a few cold brewskis, I loaded his plate with some shrimp etouffe' topped with a crabmeat compote. Billy the Banker showed up and we sat around BSing and talking about motorcycles and riding (and waxing as I recall) until very late (I think I headed for bed around 12:30). Today I think will be dedicated to removing a few million dead love bugs off of Jim's scoot before they eat the paint off of it. I expect he'll sneak onto my computer sometime today and give you his own update if he isn't out exploring the backroads around my neck of the woods.

Well, maybe this is the last of the DNM trip reports before he makes it back to Belton. Left Jim snoozing at about 0615 this AM. The plan is for him to get up leisurely and if the weather is looking good and the bike can be started*, he'll head out for Texas. Weather is so-so for today but going South in a hurry later today and for the next 5 days because ofthis wannabe low [pressure storm system in the Gulf. Hope he makes it out between raindrops.
* Jim was trying to show me his trip mileage yesterday when I got home from work. No display. Then we tried various things including trying to crank the bike. Nothing..total dead. Called the local stealer and the service guy says the TSSM is probably fried. Jim had just washed the bike and we began to think that might have had something to do with it. Well, he called Temple and got his service guy on and eventually we find a blown fuse. The bike cranked, but we still haven't found the cause of the fuse blowing and not sure if the electrical is up to a trip just yet. More tests in the AM, and I am waiting to hear if I have to sneak off from work to hook up the trailer to haul him to Biloxi Harley.
We did manage a good (sort of) meal at one of the local casinos. I pigged out on King Crab and shrimp. Jim hurt them on just about everything else on the menu.
When I get home today, I expect it will be kind of quiet. Jim is great company when he's here, and I look forward to seeing him (and Patty) whenever the opportunity occurs. Guess it's my turn to head for Belton.

Here I sit at home wondering why I came back?

Tailgunner is in W. VA. at her sister's house and threatening to not be home before next weekend. I wonder what kind of trouble I can get into while she is gone?

What a great trip. We never did make Florida, but we sure found plenty of great roads to ride. As soon as I get my camera uploaded, I'll start posting some pictures.

Today is a slow down and rest day. Tomorrow will be clean up the bike day. The TSSM held up nicely on the way home. I guess the box of fuses in the saddlebag intimidated it into submission.

Man that Darryl can cook. One of you gals should snatch him up. Or take lessons from him.

I washed the bike today for the first time since I got home and the fuse blew again. I'm going to have to pull the fairing and see what is going on. The last thing I did before the trip was install the oil temperature guage to replace my air guage and I also added an additional power socket. I must have left something exposed. I wash it just like I always have for the last year and this has never happened before. Must be something I did.

At the moment, Mz Midnight is fine.

This is just a sign that she would rather be riding than bathing.

There are riders and there are waxers. Guess which catagory we fall into?
